A Wolverine video game has never really been able to capture those unique characteristics that so many comics universe enthusiasts have loved for decades. However, the new X-men Origins: Wolverine video game does seem to get things right, which is very impressive seeing as the movie itself seems to have been such a screw-up. This could be a Very Rare happening indeed- a video game that is actually better than the film it is based on.
The first thing you may take on board is the strong combat system that this game offers. It does capture some of the adrenaline-fuelled action that being the character of Wolverine would allow you. His healing factor adds another element to proceedings too, and it is nice to see a mainstay of his comics and movie persona done so well by the Wolverine video game programmers. Logan’s attributes in this licensed Wolverine video game constantly regenerate as you get injured, but you’ll need to duck and hide a while if your life energy gets too low.
With progressively more intimidating adversaries to come up against throughout the game, it becomes a more and more intense experience the more you play. Boasting great graphics and sound, it does hurl you into the thick of the action, and with so many X-Men comic book characters showing up throughout this Wolverine video game, there is a great deal to keep die-hard fans thrilled. Another positive feature of the game-play is the ability to focus on certain aspects of Wolverine’s superhuman senses by using the control pad, allowing you spot bad guys, entrances and more that you may otherwise miss.
As an overall gaming experience, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine video game is a whopping success, serving you all the thrills of the Wolverine film with added elements that the feature film lacks. With clear, beautiful visuals and thumping sound design, the game really gets you inside the character and his superhuman rage, and is a very welcome addition to the list of Marvel related Video Games.
