2011 has been a slow year for Japanese RPGs, with ‘Final Fantasy XIV’ stuck in
post-release hell on PC and ‘Dragon Quest X’ still in development. Apart from
the Namco Bandai-published ‘Dark Souls,’ all the entries are Western in
origin, which does make sense as ‘Dark Souls’ is the most traditional RPG
here. (One note: ‘Star Wars: The Old Republic,’ the MMO from Bioware, is due
out Dec. 20. As I haven’t played it, I don’t want to include it in the list,
